Hello there! I’m Nick Cleary, a Platform Engineer who enjoys tinkering with things and breaking them for fun.
What I Work With
I’ve done a lot of work with (and somehow feel like I know less about every day):
- Kubernetes
- Proxmox
- Python
- Terraform
- Ansible
- AWS and Azure
In the past, I’ve also worked in application security and as an application developer.
I enjoy learning a lot about a lot of things, and gluing solutions together. The way Cloud Native techs work together and interact to build a whole competent system is especially interesting to me, so I often find myself going down yet another rabbit hole of another tool trying to understand how it can be used most effectively.
Side Projects
Like any good developer, I have a vertitable graveyard of abandoned put-on-hold side projects; everything from a tracker for weightlifting PRs to Kiwix Zim automatic updates. A couple projects have actually made their way to fruition however:
- A discord bot to annoy my friends using Python. This takes advantage of Python’s dynamic loading of files to automatically register handlers for incoming messages. Because why not over architect a meme bot?
- A DnD shop generator Foundry Module
The later is currently being worked on and transformed into a full fledged website powered with Django. It’s slated to be ready for prime time by 2035.
Not Tech
All of life isn’t just tech, right? Outside of tech, I also enjoy the typical nerd hobbies of DnD and other TTRPGs, as well as spending too much time at the gym, reading books about niche topics, and writing short stories that will never see the light of the day.
